The Bucksport Bay Festival has always been a family oriented event! Activities range from an Antique and Classic Car Show to a 5K Family Fun Run, as well as the Hancock County United Bikers of Maine and their Motorcycle Show. We offer “Live Music” at the Gazebo from 11am until 8:45pm Saturday. Music includes The Dixieland Band, The 195th Army National Guard Jazz Band , Money Down , The Willy Kelly Band and The Steel Rail Express . Matthew Drinnenberg will  perform  , under the Big Tent at the Kids Center starting at 7pm. Best of all, these are all talented singers and musicians from Maine ! There is an Expanded Kid’s Center filled with activities to keep youngsters of all ages occupied and amused. The Kids Center will be open from 10am – 5pm. For $5 dollars you get   “The Works “...King Lion Maze, (2) Bounce Houses, Hole in One  Golf , Skee-Ball and several other games under the tent. There will be a Small Animal Petting Area hosted by the 4-H Hoof and Paws Club & Warren Associates Family Farm Insurance. An Interactive Puppet Show sponsored by Redeeming Love Church of GOD. There will also be a Sports Area with (3) games sponsored by the Army National Guard. Try your skills at Pitching Baseballs (radar clocked), Shooting Hoops and Tossing Footballs. The Hannaford Pie Bake-Off Contest will offer up slices of goodness for sale after the judging. We have the Parade on Saturday starting an hour earlier than usual at  9am  , which will include (3)  Anah Shriners Units , Reenactors from Ft. Knox , The 195th Army National Guard Marching Band  and of course many local participants from the surrounding area. The Fireworks will take place at 9 pm Saturday night. This year they will be launched from the boat landing on Verona Island. There will be a Karaoke Contest at 7pm on Friday night at the Gazebo, which should be a crowd pleaser! Open to all ages. Cash prizes will be awarded!! 1st Place $125, 2nd $75, 3rd $50. Registration and admission is free. Registration starts 5:30pm at the Gazebo and is limited to 15 contestants. Participants must supply their own “music only” background CD. After the Karaoke contest venture out behind The Alamo Theater for a Free Outdoor Movie showing of “Back to the Future”. There will be 70+ Maine Crafters, Artisans, and Food Vendors galore lining our waterfront all day Saturday, offering some of the most unique items to be found in this part of Maine.

The Bucksport Healthy Communities Coalition will be hosting the “2010 Wellness Expo” at Flagpole Point. Be sure to walk along the scenic 1 mile paved Waterfront Walkway to see all of this year’s attractions as well as the Bucksport Area Veterans Memorial with it’s waterwheel , footbridge and fountain. We will have a remote radio broadcast from the WWMJ / I95 Radio Van, noon until 4pm in the parking lot behind the Town Office. We will have 3 Maine authors on hand. Gerry Boyle will be doing a book signing from Noon until 1pm. Linda Greenlaw will be doing a book signing of her new novel “Seaworthy” from 1pm - 3pm and Katherine Hall Page will be on hand from 3pm - 4pm for a book signing. All will take place at the Bookstacks booth on Saturday by the Flagpole.  History buffs can peruse the displays at the Bucksport Historical Society, located in the old train depot near the town dock. The weekend would not be complete if you did not head on over to Fort Knox. Check out the 20th Maine Encampment and their re-creation of Civil War life. This year “The Battle at Fort Knox” will to include a  Sea Battle in the river at 2:30pm on Saturday as well as Union and Confederate infantry and artillery on shore and plenty of civilian activity as well. The Battle of Fort Knox is attempting to do something unique. First Student Transportation will be providing free shuttle bus service to-and-from the Fort all day Saturday. The Festival opens on Thursday, July 22nd 7pm with the Riverbend Players evening show “USO Revisited  ... A Salute to our Military “at the Alamo Theatre. The Festival then kicks into high gear on Friday evening, July 23rd and early Saturday, July 24th. On Sunday the 25th, there will be other activities to enjoy such as an encore presentation of the Riverbend Players show at the Alamo Theater 7pm and continuing activities at Ft. Knox until 3pm. This is just a sampling of the many events and activities that have come to define the Bucksport Bay Festival. Please check back after June 15th for a complete schedule of events. You’ll never know what new and interesting events and adventures will be added to our Festival. Many individuals and organizations collaborate to make this Festival one that folks will truly enjoy, and we invite you to join us for one of the best family oriented weekends in our part of Maine. We are looking forward to seeing you, your family and friends, sometime between July 22nd and 25th along the scenic Penobscot River Waterfront Walkway in downtown Bucksport!
